That was when I realized we had been joined by young man I recognized as being Sir Kay's current squire.
He had been sent to convey a simple and somewhat baffling message; Kay would consider participating in my knighting ceremony, but only after the two of us had held a proper conversation.
(Or; five conversations Mordred had just before his knighting ceremony, and one he had right after.) Kay/Mordred

It was an odd thing, Kay genuinely trying to keep bitterness out of his voice. Mordred was still young and untested, but it seemed clear he would command attention wherever he went. It was impossible to imagine Mordred vanishing into the minutiae of harvest schedules or bookkeeping.
Although, lately, Kay didn’t feel particularly unseen. It was as though Mordred wouldn’t let him be. Kay/Mordred

I had often wondered what it was about my own attitude that, when I seemed to be making perfect sense to myself, often resulted in other men continuing to resolutely argue their point incessantly. I had a sense of it now: Mordred was afflicted with the same curse, his reason and logic maddening, my own mind churning like a dangerously flooded stream as I sought to find justification for the fact that reason did not ease my heart. Kay/Mordred

Merlin (TV series)
In Want of the Wife by syllic

When Merlin first hears that Arthur has been betrothed, his ribs pull inwards with an odd little hitch, and he only allows himself a second—which he needs in order to coordinate spinning in place without falling on his face—before he’s running to Arthur’s chambers.

It must have cost Gareth much to go against his brothers and try to warn Lancelot, and even more to go to his old tormentor and beg for help. Tonight, the fate of Camelot rests on Kay's shoulders. Guenever/Lancelot/Arthur, getting a happy ending
